New Super Mario Bros, Nintendo DS. 2006.

This is my first game review ever, so go easy on me. I won't be going deeper than needed when reviewing the 501281th Mario game out there, since there actually isn’t that much to say about this 2d/3d platform game other than complementing on how well it’s made.

You’ll be amazed by the graphics if you watch the opening movie. The capacity of the NDS never ceases to surprise me.
The controls are really simple and it probably makes all the old school gamers nostalgic when they notice that it only is A + B or X + Y all the way.
The touch screen is used for one thing and that is pressing whatever mushroom you might have saved in your slot. Otherwise it’s only usable while playing the minigames, which in my opinion are really boring compared to the real game.

You get several worlds which you have to work your way through to get to the other. As usual, the quest is to save Princess Peach, or, if you have a somewhat twisted mind, get laid with her. That kind of makes me wonder if the gameplay is more entertaining if you think of her like that, or if you prefer jumping around trying to get all those coins and 1UP mushrooms..
Before going off-topic again, I’ll go through some of the new mushroom types they’ve added.

* Mega Mushroom.
Sadly this overpowered mushroom doesn’t turn you into mega man, nor do you get that shiney yellow look that Sonic pimps his girls up with sometimes.
It just makes Mario enormous and able to pretty much crush everything in his way. Poor goombas..

* Mini Mushroom.
The exact opposite of what the Mega Mushroom does. It shrinks Mario into a little midget. A really worthless mushroom to be implented in my opinion, but it’s needed to get to some places in the game.

* Koopa Shell.
Mario gets a blue koopa shell on his back, which allows him to knock down most of his enemies by spinning past them. He also swims faster.

Our little plumber has also taken a few lessons in acrobatics. He flips in the air while saying the most unnecessary things, walljumps, and lots more.

I really liked this Mario game, propably because it feels like a 4th Super Mario Bros. game for the 8-bit. Back to the roots, way to go Nintendo!

+ Simple controls. NES style.
+ You can play the game as Luigi!(by holding L & R while choosing your save file)
+ Fun and entertaining multiplayer.
+ Can be enjoyed even after completing it, both alone and with friends.
- The original Mario music! Where is it? It’s nowhere around at all. A huge disappointment for me.
9/10
Otherwise, no flaws. I’d buy it if I were a Mario fantast who owns a DS, definitely.
