Plans are afoot to develop the area in and around Hammersmith Town Hall in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
The proposals feature plans for 320 new apartments ranging from studios to 3 bedroom offerings, a 10,863 square metre civic building, an 1,840 square metre supermarket, and 895 square metres of retail space aimed at smaller shops and restaurants to help animate the public space.
Also included in the development is new landscaped building space to serve as a civic square that befits the headquarters of local government there acting as a space for both the new civic building and the listed town hall.
It is with this square in mind that the residential aspect of the scheme has been planned how it has. Although there will be two towers of 14 and 15 floors above ground, and heights of just over 50 metres each, they have been planned to sit on opposing corners between the new civic office as reduce to a minimum any potential overshadowing that the square would experience.
Perhaps more importantly, there will be a footbridge over the currently impenetrable A4 Great West Road that will link the project straight to Furnival Gardens and the northern bank of the River Thames. This will be a huge improvement on the existing, and rather dank subway that leads to the riverside.
The 2.04 hectare plans by Sheppard Robson, have been drawn up for King Street Developments who have been working closely with the local borough council to get the maximum they can out of the plot.
